My Voice Experience
I started getting professional voice over jobs in 1992 with my first set of commercials for a doctor named Whitten who performed a then relatively unknown procedure know as Lasik. The doctor went on to bigger and better things, like performing his surgery on Tiger Woods, after which his career exploded, as did mine and Tigers. I would like to accept responsibility for their success, but oddly enough, neither has called to thank me. I then went on into more voice over work in industrial narration, political, and commercial work in both the New York City and Washington - Baltimore markets.
While in New York, I attended the Connecticut Schools of Broadcasting, and ended up back in Washington with my first on air gig as a traffic reporter. A short while later I left radio and finished my voice actors recording studio MineWurx, where I now teach new voice talent how to break into the market, perform better auditions, study voice acting and properly say the letter W.
The studio now offers Online Voice Over Training and demo production services to voice over artists everywhere.
My Training
I started my voiceover training at JRB Productions, working one on one with a voice coach for several hours a week. I continued that training for close to two years. It was a rather conservative coaching style, and after a while I wanted more, so I moved to New York City to find out more about the next level. Yes, there is a next level for new voice over talents. During a brief relationship with the William Morris talent agency, I learned more about voice acting, and the character work involved in voice over. From there I went to Broadcast School and learned more about the internal operations of the radio and television business, which led me to working in radio in the Washington market. After almost a decade working with studios, voice talent, producers, voice over agents, audio engineers and radio people, I have crafted those experiences along with my voiceover talent, to make me a better talent in the studio, as well as an all around commercial production guy.
